This sounds like someone had a lot of fun making this ad for The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band! It took place in Fayetteville, AR, Feb. 25, 8 PM until midnight at the Barnhill Field House, University of Arkansas...the year is not known. The sponsor was the U of A Interfraternity Council. Ticket outlets were the Village Fox and The Campaign.
The Barnhill Arena is a beautiful facility. I've been unable to find any early photos, however. Wouldn't it be great to find some pictures of bands performing in the facilities mentioned in the blog?

Voice on this spot is Mike McCormick II (Barry Wood). Production value does not sound like Phil North, but I could well be wrong. I would put the time frame at 1971, owing to the inclusion of what sounds like material from "All The Good Times," the LP that came after "Uncle Charlie."
ReplyDeleteThis was during the period when the Dirt Band seemingly played every college in Arkansas at least twice--and they put on a great show!

Based on the time frame, you'd probably bea hard-pressed to find many photos of Barnhill Arena. While it's a legendary facility at the U of A, 1971 would be prior to the Eddie Sutton era of Razorback basketball and Barnhill was not nearly as "beautiful" as it is now. There were nicer High School gyms in the state before the renovation.
