Rebel Springs Rock Festival '73

We've received another nice little ad from Barry Mac, this one regarding the Rebel Springs Rock Festival from 1973!  Featured bands were ZZ Top, Bloodrock and River City.  It took place on July 4, 5 and 6, 1973, from noon 'til midnight on all three days.  There were no prepaid tickets and were $12 dollars for all three days at the gate- that's $4 per day!  No where will we EVER see those ticket prices again....

Thank you, Barry!

  10. I was there, too, in '73. Anyone else remember a 2nd. Year of Rebel Springs? MC5 played, along with someone else. Fuzzy memory, but if I'm right, it was on the same property but not on the site we all camped at in '73. I don't recall camping, may have just been a one day event in the woods like '73. Anyone remember? Think it was the year after, '1974, I guess. I know MC-5, the famous Detroit band ?
(Motor City 5) that were famous not only for their"heavy metal sound", but also for being out-spoken critics of our govt & Nixon with Wayne Cramer going to prison on a marijuana bust in retaliation for his anti-govt. protests.I barely knew who the MC-5 were, but good show! There was another band that year, but no memory of them. I don't recall camping like I did for 1973's festival, and this onemay or may not had camping, but don't recall it being like 1973.can anyone clear up the gaps in my memory? 1974 was a BIG year for me! In addition to MC-5 at Rebel Springs, I hitchhiked to Charlotte, NC for August Jam. 200,000 - 300,000 people for ALLMAN BROS, ELP and half a dozen others -Marshall Tucker, etc.

1973 was even greater - Rebel Springs and I only remembered Bloodrock. Had thought Z Z Top had been in '74 with MC-5, guess not. Leaves a gap with who was there with MC-5 in '74. 1974 was Summer Jam and I hitched to up-state New York to see The Grateful Dead, The Band, and Allman Bros. Largest ever music festival- 600,000 for 1 day, 2 if you counted the unscheduled "sound check the night before that went on for almost all night! Please, someone help clear up that there was a Rebel Springs in '74 with MC-5 and someone else.Don't remember a festival atmosphere and it wasn't down those logging roads and by a pond like it was in '73, but it was on that same property, but more like a two band concert.

  11. I'm pretty sure MC5 was at Rebel Springs the first year in 1972. I didn't make it that year, but was there all 3 days in 1973. ZZ top had released the Tres Hombres album and it was a major breakthrough period for them nationally. I enjoyed the video hammerhead posted. It brought back many memories.

  13. I was there at 15 years of age for all three days. Remember playing three games of chess with a guy who carried a boa constrictor around in a shaving bag. Games took about six hours to complete. They were intense!
I recall the rain starting on the third day when everyone was leaving.
