Lancer Comments On Mobile, AL Station

"I remember seeing those towers just as you come out of the Mobile tunnel, they are just east of the battleship. Awesome location for an AM facility."

Glad you dropped by, Lancer!  There is also a station just outside the eastern side of the tunnel, WMOB-AM, which is still locally-owned.  Both are in nice, wet locations, good for ground conductivity!

Just a short way to the west, along the I-165 bypass northwest of Mobile, is the three tower array of WNTM-AM, also right smack dab in a marsh.

The local FM stations are located up on "Transmitter Hill" across the Bay in Baldwin County.  There are some smaller AM stations over there, too.  I'll bet they don't have the ground conductivity of the ones in the marshes, however.

By the way, you also mentioned the battleship, U.S.S. Alabama.  There is a small group of Hams here that activate the ship from time to time on special weekends.  If you happen to stop by, inquire within!
